The 65th Annual Dublin-Laurens Chamber of Commerce annual dinner was a celebration of another year of great accomplishments for the Dublin-Laurens County business community. Among those successes, several business people were honored including Businessman of the Year, Spence Mullis, President/CEO of Morris Bank.
Before his name was announced, he was described as an individual whose impact on Dublin-Laurens County has been tremendous; one who leads and finishes well, though he is far from finished. Friends, customers, and employees of Spence used words to describe him as “passionate, energetic, passionate, determined, passionate, a leader, and very passionate.” He has been vital in the re-development of downtown Dublin, while expanding his own organization into four communities with over 100 employees, and consistently displaying a passionate energy for the betterment of our community’s present and future. These key factors were attributed to his selection for the award.
“This was a surprise,” Mullis said. “I grew up here too and love this community. There are a lot of guys out here in the audience tonight who are a lot more deserving than me. We’ve accomplished a lot in the last 15 to 20 years and I’ve enjoyed working alongside each of you to make us that. We do have a lot of work to do. I’m very excited about the future. With your help, support, and everybody moving in the same direction, you ain’t seen nothing yet.”
The award recipients were selected from numerous applications submitted by chamber members. An outside selection committee chose the winner based on criteria including: professionalism and leadership skills, strong community impact and involvement, a role model and mentor to others, demonstrate commitment to a highest level of ethics in business practices.
